Friday, June 27, was an evening of special celebration for the colleges Hialeah Clinic, honoring graduates, alumni, faculty, staff, incoming students, and one man who was a true champion of dental education in South Florida – Dr. Aquilas E. Mas.
Dr. Hardeep K. Chhatwal, third year resident in Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology, received the 2008 Dr. Robert J. Gorlin Memorial Award from the International/American Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology Association.
Dr. Henrietta Logan, PhD, has won an Award of Merit from the American College of Dentists. The award, given since 1959, recognizes and acknowledges specific, outstanding achievements of non-dentists that link to the ACD’s mission of promoting excellence, ethics, professionalism and leadership in dentistry.
Dr. Stillwell is clinical associate professor in Operative Dentistry and the director of patient admissions and treatment planning for the UF College of Dentistry. He earned his dental degree from Louisiana State University School of Dentistry, and completed a General Practice Residency at the University of Colorado School of Dentistry.
Congratulations to Dr. Henry Young, DDS, BS, who was appointed interim chair of the department of operative dentistry effective May 30, 2008. He will be responsible for managing the academic, administrative and fiscal affairs of the department, and supporting the professional development of department faculty and research activities.

Jean Sweitzer and Melissa Long, both part of the dean’s office, were recognized today in a ceremony for their participation in leadership programs at the University of Florida.
It’s been a busy year for Dr. Linda Bartoshuk, PhD, a tenured faculty member and a presidential endowed professor in Community Dentistry and Behavioral Science at the UF College of Dentistry. And it looks as if things are going to get even busier.
Congratulations to the UF College of Dentistry employees who received their Pro3 Series certificates and were recognized at the annual staff retreat on Friday, June 6.
Dr. Fong Wong, a tenure accruing junior faculty member in prosthodontics, joined the college in 2004 having come from the Boston University’s Goldman School of Dental Medicine where she was teaching restorative dentistry.
