Thank you for your interest in the University of Florida College of Dentistry. We are pleased that you are considering graduate study at UFCD. To assist you with your decision, we would like to highlight some of our most Frequently Asked Questions.

Do you consider students who are not Florida residents? What about students who have dental degrees from schools in other countries?

The Admissions Office encourages and welcomes qualified applicants to our Advanced and Graduate Education programs from around the world. Applicants must submit all application materials outlined in the requirements section. International applicants will need supplemental information as outlined in the International Dentist section of this website.

What are the application deadline dates?

Our many postdoctoral programs vary in their application deadline dates. Completed applications and ALL supporting documents must be received in this office by the date indicated for the specific postdoctoral program to which you are applying. Any application files not completed by the program application deadline will not be considered. Please note that the deadlines for programs participating in PASS are several weeks EARLIER than the college application deadline. This means that you must have your application materials sent to PASS earlier than the school's program deadline. For PASS application deadlines, go here.

What are the admissions requirements?

Completed application form or PASS application, if program participates in PASS (Advanced Education in General Dentistry [AEGD] programs, Orthodontics, Pediatric Dentistry, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery).
Online graduate application and application fee of $30 (for Graduate programs only) payable to the University of Florida.
Official dental school transcripts. Graduate Programs require transcripts from all undergraduate and professional schools. Send transcripts to the Office of Dental Admissions, PO Box 100402, Gainesville, FL 32610-0402.
Results of the National Dental Board Examination (all applicants) and the Graduate Record Examination scores (Orthodontics, Dental Biomaterials, and Oral Biology).
Three letters of recommendation, one from the Dean of the dental school attended (must include class standing); and two letters from dental faculty members, your faculty advisor or individuals who can provide information relevant to your potential for success in your chosen field of training.
For foreign applicants: TOEFL, Test of English as a Foreign Language, score in excess of 550 or (213 on the computer and 80 on the internet based exam), if the applicant's native language is other than English. Applicant is exempt if they studied at an American Institution of higher learning for a minimum of one full academic year.

Does your Program Participate in PASS?

Our residency programs (Oral Surgery / Pediatric Dentistry / AEGD / Orthodontics) participate in the Postdoctoral Application Support Service (PASS) sponsored by the American Association of Dental Schools. Additionally, our residency programs in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry also participate in the Postdoctoral Dental Matching Program. Applicants to these programs are required to register with the match. For more information about the match, contact:

Do you require a secondary application if participating in PASS?

The College of Dentistry does require a secondary application for some programs. Please check our website and also, refer to the additional materials list in your PASS Application Instructions for each program you are applying to.

When are interviews held?

An interview will be conducted by the program's Admissions Committee only after it has been determined that the applicant is qualified. Applicants will be contacted to arrange an interview by the program to which they have made an application. Contact your program's director for information about interviews.

When will I know if I am admitted?

Applications are reviewed by the program Admissions Committee after interviews. Typically, the decision to accept will be made in early spring.

Is there much competition to get in?

Programs vary in their competitiveness, but you can expect programs to have more applicants than places in their programs. Each application is judged on its own merit.

Can I apply to more than one graduate program?

You can be considered for admission to more than one programs. However, you must complete a separate application for each program.

How can I contact the department to check the status of my application?

We encourage you to email your questions concerning the status of application. You may also call our office, but please give the department adequate time to respond to your request due to the large volume of calls that are received. Upon receipt of your application, you will be notified by mail or email of incomplete or missing documents.

If I completed an application last year, can that application be used for this year?

Parts of applications submitted in previous years may be reactivated. We keep all records for a period of two years following a submission. It will not be necessary for you to re-submit all of the same documentation. However, you must submit an updated application and new application fee for Admission to the Graduate School or Post baccalaureate program and a College of Dentistry application form. You will also need to re-apply to PASS. Be advised, if there have been changes in your credentials or factors which would strengthen your application, they should also be submitted.

What are the tuition/fees and stipends for in-state and out-of-state students?

TUITION:
Florida residents: averages approximately $9,102 annually;
and Non-residents: approximately $29,269 annually.

However, these rates are subject to change at anytime during enrollment. Medical school tuition for Oral Surgery/MD program is approximately $17,527 (Florida resident status) annually; $48,425 (non-resident status) annually. Residents who are registered as postdoctoral students here at UFCD receive an annual stipend. This stipend is determined on an annual basis and subject to change at any time during enrollment.

Is financial aid available?

US Citizens and Permanent Residents may be eligible for financial aid. Many factors determine an individual's eligibility, including previous borrowing and indebtedness. You must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to be considered for financial aid. http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/

Please understand that there are few sources of financial aid for graduate education and that large debt loads from pre doctoral programs could limit the amount of aid you can receive.
