Cone Beam CT and Radiographic Techniques in Dentistry

Course Description

This course will enable the dental practitioner to understand the basic concepts of advanced imaging as applied to dentistry. The indications for use of advanced imaging will be discussed. Cutting edge research and clinical radiographic tools will be included. Currently available advanced imaging units will be introduced. Image capture and processing will be discussed.

Applications in the field of implant dentistry, orthodontics, oral surgery etc. will be discussed. Interesting cases will be introduced for discussion in an interactive session. Discussion of indications for referring patients for CT, basics of interpretation, need for other procedures, legal aspects of reading CTs, etc. will be included.

A demonstration session will be offered following the lecture session. Participants will have an opportunity to observe 3D image acquisition and image reconstruction and processing.

  • Introduction to advanced imaging, terminology, applications
  • Discuss advantages and disadvantages of 3D imaging
  • Compare and contrast different systems, including image capture technology
  • Demo session

Dental practitioners and support staff who are/will be engaged in advanced image acquisition or prescription.
