In a recent series of strategic planning sessions the college's Office of Continuing Dental Education crafted a new vision statement: "To be the dental profession's trusted resource for continuing education and life-long learning."

In order to achieve this vision we've taken several steps to solicit your advice. We reactivated our Advisory Board which consists of private practitioners, dental educators, corporate dentistry representatives and dental auxiliary personnel. This group, we believe, represents the true pulse of the dental community.

Through a series of meetings, we obtained advice on everything from course topics and content to teaching methodologies. We are striving to incorporate your suggestions into our programs. For example, our Advisory Board suggested inviting visiting dental scholarsso we scheduled five nationally recognized speakers in 2011-12: Drs. Steven Cohen (endodontics), Joe Massad (removable prosthodontics), Gordon Christensen, Ben Johnson (endodontics) and Ross Nash (esthetic dentistry). Please join us and learn from these outstanding clinicians.

In addition, we recently conducted a "best customers" on-line survey. I am proud to report that 96 percent of those completing the survey gave us an overall rating of "good to excellent." While this rating is flattering, we recognize there is room for improvement and plan to incorporate many survey suggestions into our strategic plan. The survey results make it very clear that our customers want us to continue to present courses that are non-commercial, evidence-based with strong scientific principles, but clinically relevant and practical for the daily practitioner. With our ADA CERP (Continuing Education Recognition Program) recognition, we are committed to offering courses that meet these requirements.

If you have additional suggestions about how we can improve our continuing education program, we would love to hear from you! In the meantime, we will continue working towards our vision of becoming your trusted resource for continuing education and life-long learning.
