Faculty Achievements
Dr. Lorena Baccaglini has received a grant from NIH entitled "Epidemiology of Recurrent Aphthous Stomatitis: Role of Ghrelin." The project began in September, 2008.
Dr. Bridgett Rahim-Williams has been promoted to Research Assistant Professor, effective September 28, 2007. Dr. Rahim-Williams has a background in both public health and medical anthropology. For some time, her research interests have been focused on reducing health disparities, especially in African American women. During her post-doctoral training, her research has primarily emphasized ethnic group differences in the experience of pain. For example, Dr. Rahim-Williams has reported that ethnic identity is associated with pain responses in African American and Hispanic persons, but not among non-Hispanic whites. She plans to further develop this line of research by examining the clinical relevance of ethnic differences in pain sensitivity among older adults with pain. Dr. Rahim-Williams is supported by the Pepper Scholar program, which is a career development program of the Claude D. Pepper Older Americans Independence Center.
