Jacobson and Starr publish in Implant Dentistry

10/22/2009
The October 2009 issue of Implant Dentistry features a case report, “Flapless Implant Placement with Crown Lengthening Procedure to Correct Crown Height” by Nancy Jacobson, D.M.D., and Cliff Starr, D.M.D., both clinical associate professors at the College of Dentistry’s Jacksonville Clinic.

The report details the case of a 23-year-old female patient who presented with a fractured crown and draining fistula on the buccal gingiva of 12.

The abstract:
Bone loss and soft tissue loss are common problems after tooth extraction and that can lead to excessive length of clinical crowns. This problem can be exacerbated by delaying implant placement after tooth extraction. In this case the opposite occurred. After flapless placement of a NobelDirect implant with immediate loading there was not enough vertical space for an esthetic restoration. Surgical crown lengthening was performed to create vertical space to place an esthetically pleasing restoration in harmony with the patients existing dentition.
Implant Dentistry is the official journal of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists.
