Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology
Diagnostic Pathology Laboratory
The Oral Pathology Laboratory currently accessions more than 7,000 specimens annually.
The Laboratory is a comprehensive, computerized service for processing and diagnosing oral biopsy and cytology specimens. In addition to routine histochemical procedures, immunohisto-chemical and immunofluorescence techniques are also available for diagnostically challenging cases. A diagnosis is reported within 24 hours of receipt for the majority of specimens. Clinicians receive a detailed report on every specimen submitted. FAX capability is available. When cases are malignant or very atypical, the diagnosis will be relayed immediately by telephone with a written report to follow. A nation-wide courier service is available to pick up your specimens.
Biopsy kits with formalin-filled specimen bottles and cytology kits, history sheets are provided by the Laboratory at no cost to the clinician. The Oral Pathology Laboratory bills each patient directly for services rendered. Clinicians are not billed for our services unless a patient's address is not provided.
For further information or to order biopsy containers call 1-800-500-7585 or e-mail Dr. Don Cohen at dcohen@dental.ufl.edu.
