Jermanus Receives Research Day Award
Caroline Jermanus, D.M.D., a second year resident and graduate student in the Department of Periodontology, received a second-place award at the College of Dentistry's Seventh Annual Research Day. This award was given for the M.S./Resident Division.
Jermanus Receives AADR Award
Caroline Jermanus, D.M.D., a second year resident and a graduate student in the Department of Periodontology received a prestigious American Association for Dental Research (AADR) Bloc Travel Grant. This award is given to graduate students with exceptional abstracts submitted to AADR.
Koutouzis receives AAIDRF grant award
Theofilos Koutouzis, D.D.S., M.S., recently received an American Academy of Implant Dentistry Research Foundation (AAIDRF) Award in order to complete his research project "Comparative Soft and Hard Tissue Responses to Titanium and Polymer Healing abutments."
Karpinia awarded FEO
Katherine Karpinia, D.M.D., MS, associate professor and director in Periodontics, received a FEO award for the spring 2009 semester. Karpinia will train at the World Clinical Laser Institute in Charlotte, N.C., to learn to use lasers to treat dental patients. This training and certification will add laser therapy to the patient treatment armamentarium for the predoctoral clinics in the College of Dentistry.

Low Elected AAP President Elect
Samuel Low, DDS, MS, of Gainesville, Fla., was installed as President Elect of the American Academy of Periodontology Board of Trustees during its 94th Annual Meeting, held in Seattle in September.
