Prosthodontics

Research

The University of Florida Prosthodontics Department is fortunate to have talented faculty members who are dedicated to teaching dental students, researching and expanding their knowledge of prosthodontic dentistry.

Dr. Andre Mauderli - Pain

Dr. Mauderli's research focus is on neural pain modulation mechanisms.  When activated, these mechanisms lead to changes in pain sensitivity.  Thus, they determine how pain-prone a subject is.  He has been involved in studies of pain sensitivity in both rodent and human participants.

For the rodent model, he was the primary inventor of a new operant escape assay patent pending.  The assay is highly sensitive to opioid analgesia, and  is currently being used in laboratories of the Comprehensive Center for Pain Research and the Department of Neuroscience to study the effects of CNS injury on thermal nociception.

His current research focus is the study of exaggerated pain sensitization and deficient pain inhibition resulting from CNS injury and from chronic pain syndromes in human participants (e.g., fibromyalgia, irritable bowel and myofascial pain).
