Overview

Research is an important component of the College of Dentistry mission. Our faculty, staff and students are dedicated to participating in research and scholarly activity. Research and scholarship are focused on the creation of new knowledge that will enhance our teaching and service missions.

  • The UF College of Dentistry currently ranks fourth among all dental schools in the United States in NIH/NIDCR funding for research.
  • In fiscal year 2008, 45 U.S. dental schools received funding for research from NIDCR. The UF College of Dentistry received $2,026,217 in funding in FY 2008 from six other NIH institutes, including NIAID, NIAIM, NICHD, NINDS, NIDCD, and NINR.

We are also committed to seeking support for our research and training activities through industry and state funding.

The collaborative research efforts of our faculty, staff, and students to explore new scientific concepts and critically assess contemporary treatment modalities have led to new knowledge that will be translated into clinical practice to support our standards of teaching and patient care, which is the ultimate goal of our profession.
