TOPIC:
TREATMENT OF MEDICAL EMERGENCIES IN THE DENTAL OFFICE
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Have you noticed how complicated patient's medical histories are becoming? As medicine has advanced, the dental practitioner is faced with an increasingly complex group of patients who are being medically managed for significant disease processes. Medical problems managed with complicated medical therapies, devices and multiple drugs are more common now than ever. Sometimes, just looking at the medication list can be overwhelming. Staying current with these advances is always a challenge.
This course will review some common medical problems, cover health status evaluation of the dental patient, and discuss the specific relevance to the dental situation. We will discuss how the medical status evaluation will allow prediction of potential medical emergencies, and how to treat them should they occur. A particularly useful aspect of the course is the discussion of how to select a dental treatment plan which is appropriate to the medical status of the patient. We will cover staff and office preparation, and round out the discussion with pain management, complications and infection management. The presentation will be appropriate for the entire dental staff, and will focus on real dental situations.
So, if you are feeling like you've need to get back up to speed with your medical knowledge, this course should help.
