Graduation Requirements
General
- Demonstrate management of all patient types including children, handicapped, elderly patients.
- Attendance at assigned clinics.
Dental Biomaterials
- Demonstrate proper techniques for manipulation of dental materials.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the mechanical and physical properties of dental materials.
Oral Diagnostics, Treatment Planning and Recare
- Finalize diagnostic work-up and treatment plans for all assigned patients.
- Complete the recare of your family of patients.
Prevention
- Demonstrate knowledge and delivery of care in prevention: including sealants, CHI, fluoride treatment, dietary counseling, and caries risk evaluation.
Radiology
- Demonstrate competency in exposing, mounting, and critiquing radiographic surveys for assigned patients.
- Complete a written radiographic interpretation for all assigned comprehensive care patients while in Gainesville.
Periodontics
- Complete Phase I treatment and evaluations on all patients.
- Complete Phase I evaluations on patients with moderate to severe periodontal disease.
- Assist in or perform 8 surgical procedures.
- Complete Phase II treatment plan with surgical treatment and Phase II evaluations.
Operative
- Complete a variety of restorative cases including amalgams, pin amalgams, composites, sedative restorations, and foundations.
- Demonstrate competency in mock board examinations each year.
- Demonstrate competency in clinical evaluations each semester
Removable Prosthodontics
- Complete reline/rebase/repair of complete or partial dentures.
- Complete at a minimum (6) units of complete dentures.
- Complete at a minimum (6) units of partial dentures.
Fixed Prosthodontics
- Complete at a minimum abutments (20) which should include a maxillary posterior bridge, a mandibular posterior bridge, an anterior bridge or anterior units.
- Prepare both cast and pre-fabrication post and core.
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Emergency Dentistry
- Demonstrate competency in extractions (50).
- Demonstrate competency in emergency examinations (30).
- Demonstrate competency in proper management of asepsis, local anesthetic, post op instructions, post op complications, suturing, management of dental infections, and medical complications - such as, hypertension, diabetes, cardiac disease, and pregnancy.
- Complete patient contact hours (6) of Nitrous Oxide Sedation.
Endodontics
- Complete root canal therapy on anterior (6), premolar (6), and molar teeth (6) and appropriately restore them.
Pedodontics
- Treat pediatric patients with sealants, PRR's, Class I, Class II, composites, extractions, stainless steel crowns, pulpotomy, and/or indirect pulp therapy.
- Demonstrate competency with local anesthesia.
Most of these procedures will be completed in your second year of study. During your first year, you must demonstrate competency in Oral Diagnostics, Treatment Planning, Radiographic Procedures and Interpretation, Phase I Periodontal and Restorative Procedures
(Operative Dentistry), and simple extractions. Restorative Dentistry includes demonstrating a working knowledge of a variety of materials.
