Dentist Admissions: 4-Year DMD Program

The University of Florida has 2 programs for dentists who have:
1) international dental degrees and
2) whose goal is to be able to practice dentistry in Florida.
This program was designed for dentists who are legal residents of the state of Florida. Florida residents have priority in admission to this program. |
Overview
This 4-year program leads to
a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree. This degree will allow you to
take the dental board exam in any state in the United States. Students
enrolled in this program take the same courses as our regularly enrolled
DMD students. Up to 2 students may be accepted into this program
each year. Please use this website to view the following information:
Application
Deadline
Applications for the class beginning
in August will be accepted until November 1 of the previous year (for example, if you want to enroll in August 2007, you must apply by November 1, 2006).
Late applications will not be accepted.
Application Information and Requirements
To apply to this program you will need:
1. To be a citizen of the United States or in the process of becoming a permanent resident of the U.S. and possess one of the following:
a green card or permanent resident visa (I-551)
a conditional permanent resident card (I-551C)
a petition for an alien relative (I-130)
(I-130 holders are not eligible for financial aid.)
an arrival-departure record (I-94 with one of the following designations; Refugee, Asylum Granted, Indefinite Parole, Humanitarian Parole or Cuban-Haitian Entrant)
Individuals on Student and/or visitor visas are not accepted.
2. Proof you have completed a dental program in another country. You will need an official transcript which is translated and certified in a Course by Course evaluation report by ECE (Educational Credential Evaluators, Inc., PO BOX 92970, Milwaukee, WI 53202-0970, (414)298-3400, www.ece.org) Only documents certified by ECE will be considered.
3. A TOEFL score of 213 on computerized version or a score of 80 on the Internet-Based version, www.toefl.org.
Please note, the new UF College of Dentistry code is 8612.
4. At least 75% on all sections of Part 1 of the National Dental Board Exam within 5 years of admissions starting date (www.ada.org)
5. 2 letters of recommendation, one personal and one professional
6. A 300-500 word essay with a summary of your clinical experience and professional activities
7. Complete all application documents and fees (made payable to the University of Florida) BEFORE the November 1 deadline

Tuition
For 2005-2006,
the tuition for this program was approximately $17,960/year for Florida
residents. Tuition for non-residents was approximately $48,254/year. Tuition
costs can increase during the period a student is enrolled and students
need to be aware of this likelihood.
