UF College of Dentistry: Continuing Education

Predictable Techniques for Total Esthetics

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

In today's rapidly changing environment of dental materials and techniques, it is important that the dentist be knowledgeable and current. It is equally important to consistently deliver optimal results to patients using techniques that are proven and reliable. Today, modern technologies, such as hard and soft tissue dental lasers are revolutionizing dental treatment. Every day, new procedures are being utilized with greater patient comfort and shortened healing times. Some of these include cavity preparation without local anesthesia, surgical crown lengthening, gingivectomy, frenectomy, troughing, excision of lesions, endodontic therapy, and treatment of apthous ulcers, to mention a few. Find out how this and other revolutionary technologies along with precise crown and bridge techniques can elevate your standard of practice. The purpose of this course is to demonstrate in a detailed step-by-step fashion, procedures that if practiced can impact on your ability to deliver an improved level of dentistry. This course will also include case presentations that will incorporate many of the described techniques and will show creative ways of managing difficult aesthetic and restorative problems that face all dentists. Be prepared to take a lot of "nuggets" home!

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

Each participant will learn:

  • Proper anatomic contour and how to achieve it using the most advanced dental materials available.
  • Tooth preparation, anatomic placement and curing techniques, contour, finishing, and polishing for posterior direct composite restorations.
  • How the tooth preparation influences the results that can be achieved with all porcelain and ceramometallic crowns.
  • Provisionalization for full coverage restorations - the use of methyl methacyrlates, and bis-acrylic resins for various restorative situations.
  • Proper management of the soft tissues is the key to successful final impressions on the first attempt every time.
  • Uses and indications for the newest cements available - resin ionomers and dual cure resin cements
  • Technologies, such as dental lasers and implants that are revolutionizing the way esthetic dentistry is delivered to the patient.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND: Since this course is very "technique oriented", attendance by the entire dental team- Dentist, Hygienist, and Dental Assistant is encouraged. Each team member should be able to discuss treatment rationales with patients through a better understanding of the step-by-step techniques. This way many of the techniques can be immediately incorporated into your practice tomorrow!
