The Best Materials for Impressions Crowns and Bridges

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

There are literally hundreds of impression materials available today. Are they all alike? Does one actually perform better than another? How much of the marketing hype can you believe? Is the barely acceptable fit of your crown due to you or your lab? Or could it be the impression material? This is a hard-hitting look at independent research done on the dimensional accuracy of the most popular materials available today. Included with the results of the study are the factors you should be asking before you select an impression material and what you can do to insure the best impression possible.

As much confusion or more lies in choosing a material for your patient's crowns and bridges once the impression is taken. What material should you use on your patients and why? Despite all the hype in all ceramic restorations, the fact is that porcelain fused to metal crowns remains the workhorse in the majority of dental offices in the United States. A quiet revolution is taking place however, as the Captek crown is gaining a considerable percentage of the PFM market. And there is good reason why it should be a frequently prescribed crown in your practice.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

  • Be able to choose a brand of impression material from those available today and what to know about other materials as they become available.
  • Be aware of the advantages and disadvantages of the materials that are available.
  • Be familiar with the various fabrication techniques used in crowns and bridges and the preparation requirements for each material.
  • Be able to chose an appropriate crown and bridge material based on each clinical situation
