COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Health care in the USA is about to undergo a revolution and dentistry will be involved in these changes. The emergence of denturists and dental therapists are not isolated events but part of the coming change of health care delivery. This course will describe the current problems of health care delivery in the USA with the likely impact for the general dentist.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
At conclusion, participants should be able to:
- Have a better understanding of health and the role of health care systems
- Have a better understanding of the new roles of people and health professionals in health and health care
- Consider the new role that dentists may play in oral health care and the possible changes in daily work practices
FACULTY:
Douglas Benn BDS, M.Phil, PhD, DDR is a Professor Emeritus of the University of Florida College of Dentistry. He trained as a dentist in London, England and has a PhD from the Department of Dental Public Health and General Practice, University College London Dental School. Among his research areas have been the development of new diagnostic methods for caries and the periodontal diseases. He also trained as a Maxillofacial Radiologist at the Royal College of Radiologists, London. In 2003 he won first prize in the O'Connor national competition to redesign the US health care system.
