Current Research Interest:

I am serving as the dental director for the Duval County Health Department in Jacksonville. Duval County Dental Program staff provide diagnostic, preventive, restorative, and minor surgical dental services to children up to the age of 20 years; some dental services to adult patients under the Ryan White Care Program. Dental program staff utilizes three fixed dental clinics and two mobile vans to provide oral health care.

In addition to providing leadership for the clinical dental program in Duval County, I am engaged in activities intended to improve the oral health of county residents and provide opportunities for community-based student learning here in Jacksonville. I am interested also in enhancing integration of the oral health and medical services components of the Duval County Health Department and fostering collaborations between the health department dental program and University of Florida (UF) College of Dentistry/Shands & UF programs located both in Gainesville and Jacksonville. My research interests include disease prevention and health promotion related to oral disease and the relations between oral health and systemic disease, especially diabetes. I continue to serve as a consultant to the editor of scientific journals and public health related organizations.
