UFCD Advanced & Graduate Students:
Frequently Asked Questions

Here are the most commonly asked questions at UFCD.  If you are still unable to find what you need, email Susan Loffredo or call her at (352)-392-2949.

What is the procedure for deferring my student loans?

Obtain an In-school Deferment form from your lending financial institutions.  Complete, sign, and forward to the Office of Education, Advanced & Graduate Education, PO Box 100407, Gainesville, FL 32610-0407 or drop off in Room D3-11 for processing.  A copy is kept in your academic record in the event documentation is needed.  The two most frequently used lendors are SallieMae and Direct Loans Services.  The forms can be downloaded (PDF format) at http://www.salliemae.com/forms/index.html and http://www.ed.gov/PDFDocs/DLForms/sch_sch.pdf respectively.

How do I apply for financial aid?

Complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or a Renewal FAFSA and return it to the federal processor as soon as possible AFTER January 1.  A FAFSA must be completed each year to be considered for federal funds.
You may prefer to apply online by using FAFSA on the Web. We strongly encourage this method of applying since it is faster and generally more accurate because the online version has built-in edits. Apply for financial aid at the same time, or even before, you apply for admissions.

I have already borrowed a considerable amount for my pre-doctoral education.  Is there a cap on the amount of financial aid that I can receive?

Yes.  Residents have a Stafford Aggregate Loan maximum of $138,500.  If you have questions regarding the amount you have borrowed, contact the UFCD financial aid office at (352) 846-1384

If I have reached the Federal Stafford Loan aggregate maximum, what are my options?

Limited options, in the form of a private loan, do exist for students that have reached the Stafford aggregate loan limit.  A list of private lenders is available on our financial aid site, or can be obtained from the UFCD financial aid office.  Once approved by a private lender, students may borrow up to the cost of attendance as approved by the school.

I lost my copy of the contract I signed.  Where can I get another one?

The original signed contract is kept in your academic record.  To obtain a copy, contact Susan Loffredo in the Office of Education, Advanced & Graduate Education, Room D3-11, phone 392-2949.

I'm interested in taking the Florida State Dental Boards. Who do I contact?

For an application call 850/245-4474, or you can request an application on line at: http://ww2.doh.state.fl.us/irm00callctr//OrderForm.asp.

Who is my health insurance carrier?

How much is my premium?

A list of Gainesville providers can be accessed here.

For students in full tuition programs, (endodontics, orthodontics, periodontics, and prosthodontics), a Student Health Fee is included as part of the registration costs. This fee covers routine outpatient visits at the Student Health Service but is not comprehensive health insurance.
