Oral Biology is a tremendously diverse scientific area, encompassing the disciplines of molecular biology and genetics, microbiology and immunology, biochemistry, biophysics, craniofacial biology and development, pharmacology and physiology.  Because of the unique combination of tissue types and functions of the mouth and craniofacial complex, the field of Oral Biology blends fundamental scientific disciplines in unique and fascinating ways to meet the challenges of developing new and highly effective ways to manage, cure or prevent diseases and developmental defects of the oral cavity and craniofacial complex.  The Department of Oral Biology at the University of Florida , College of Dentistry is home to 20 faculty and over 90 staff, students and post-doctoral fellows.  The Department generates 10 million dollars in extramural research funding annually and is also the home to a highly successful NIH-funded training program and three state-of-the-art Scientific Centers - The Center for Molecular Microbiology, The Periodontal Diseases Research Center and The Craniofacial Center.  The Department offers a highly dynamic and supportive research and training environment for undergraduates, graduate students and clinical fellows.  Moreover, we are now recruiting additional faculty and scientists to build on our strong existing foundation and to enhance and further broaden our commitment to cutting edge research into the molecular basis of diseases that affect a staggering number of people in the US and abroad.
