Ph.D.
in Oral Biology
The
Department of Oral Biology, in conjunction with the Department
of Orthodontics, offers a Ph.D. in medical sciences/oral biology
in combination with clinical orthodontic training. Admission to
the combined program requires separate application to and acceptance
by both programs. It is the perogative of either department to
make its acceptance contingent upon acceptance by the other department.
Students presently enrolled in either program may apply to the
other department program after consultation with the director
of the oral biology graduate program, the student’s research supervisor,
and the director of the orthodontic graduate program.
M.S. in the Dental Sciences with Specialization in Orthodontics
The
Master of Science in the Dental Sciences with Specialization in
Orthodontics requires a three-year program of didactic courses
and clinical rotations administered through the Department of
Orthodontics. A student may begin the clinical rotations at any
time after the fourth semester of the Ph.D. program and after
successful completion of the written and oral comprehensive examinations.
The timetable for such training will be decided upon and coordinated
on an individual basis to best serve the student’s progress through
the two programs. Upon successful completion of all requirements
for the Ph.D. program and recommendation by the candidate’s committee,
the candidate will receive a Ph.D. in medical sciences and oral
biology and a Master of Science in the Dental Sciences with Specialization
in Orthodontics.
