Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Diagnostic Sciences: Admissions Information

The University of Florida offers a six-year residency program in oral and maxillofacial surgery.  Two applicants are accepted into the program each year.  During the six years of the program, residents receive a M.D. degree, complete a one-year general surgery internship, and fulfill the requirements for certification in oral and maxillofacial surgery. 

A broad-based clinical education is given through the University of Florida Health Science Center in Gainesville.  The training involves the full scope of the specialty including treatment of facial trauma, benign and malignant pathology, craniomaxillofacial deformities, micro neurosurgery, temporomandibular joint disorders, pre-prosthetic and reconstructive surgery, outpatient anesthesia, dentoalveolar surgery and dental implants.

Residents fulfilling the requirements will be eligible for examination by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.  * A stipend is available.
