This is an urgent care clinic for adult patients in pain. We also see 13 to 17 year old minors, but only when accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

Patients for the day are selected by a lottery type system at 7:00 AM Monday-Friday. Patients that are selected  are seen between 8:30 a.m. and 12 p.m., and between 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. You MUST be present at 7:00am to complete your paper work.  Failure to report at that time may result in you not being seen.  Please bring a list of all medications you are presently taking and the dosage.

A fee-for-service of $110.00 includes a panoramic X-ray, a dental examination and one simple extraction. Additional extractions may be done at the discretion of the faculty once we have and x-ray and you have been examined. The fee is $50.00 per additional tooth.  Payment due at
time of registration.

Patients seeking extraction of multiple teeth, 3rd Molar/Wisdom teeth extraction, IV sedation or any other procedure deemed not to be appropriate for a student will be examined with the aid of an x-ray and will be referred to patient screening for student assignment or the resident oral surgery clinic.

The Student Oral Surgery Clinic accepts payment in the form of cash, check and credit card. No billing or payment arrangements are made.  The clinic accepts the following insurance: CMS and Medicaid. Medicaid patients must present proof of Medicaid (gold card or Social Security card with a picture ID).
Patients requesting treatment with nitrous oxide sedation will be assessed an additional fee.

Children are not allowed in the clinical area. If you must bring a child under 12 years old they must remain with a responsible adult at all times.

The Center for Implant Dentistry

Established in 1999, this interdisciplinary center coordinates research, educational programs, and diagnosis and treatment related to patients needing dental implants.

Straumann AG, a Switzerland-based company that tested its first implant in 1974, and the International Team for Oral Implantology (ITI), a worldwide group of scientists and clinicians that developed the ITI-Dental Implant System, helped establish the center in Gainesville.

With the backing of these two leaders in the field of dental implants, the center is the first of its kind in the world.  The center will benefit not only students in the doctor of dental medicine degree program, but also residents and faculty from our Health Science Center colleges, and an international audience of dental professionals through continuing education and distance education.

Diagnostic Pathology Laboratory

The Oral Pathology Laboratory currently accessions more than 7,000 specimens annually.

The Laboratory is a comprehensive computerized service for processing and diagnosing oral biopsy and cytology specimens.  In addition to routine histochemical procedures, immunohisto- chemical and immunofluorescence techni-ques are also available for diagnostically challenging cases.  A diagnosis is reported within 24-36 hours of receipt for the majority of specimens.  Clinicians receive a detailed report on every specimen submitted. FAX capability is available.  When cases are malignant or very atypical, the diagnosis will be relayed immediately by telephone with a written report to follow.

Biopsy kits with formalin-filled specimen bottles, cytology kits, history sheets and post-paid, pre-addressed mailing cartons are provided by the Laboratory at no cost to the clinician.  The Oral Pathology Laboratory bills each patient directly for services rendered.  Clinicians are not billed for services unless a patient’s address is not provided.

The department also sponsors a case of the month feature on the college
main website.  Each month two or three interesting cases are posted.  These are followed by multiple choice questions.  These are available free of charge or can be purchased for a small fee if CE credit is desired.  There are a total of 54 cases from approximately 18 months available and these also can be taken for continued education credit.

Information regarding the Laboratory is available at: 1-800-500-7585
